In a model, I get php syntax errors for valid syntax. Even trying to concatenate a "string" with $this->Session->read('something') says "expecting ) or ; instead of ." |

so you do need to return the vars, unless when you make the requestAction you specify 'return' => 1 then you get back a rendered view with no layout. |
